My name is Darth and my story is a bit lengthy. Upon my birth on September 3, 2018 I was loving. Human shoulders was a place I enjoyed as well as just simply being held and cuddled. I was always happy and playful.
From the time I lived in this loving home, my body had an eating disorder. It could not keep food down. After many vet visits, my owners learned that I had a heart artery, that is supposed to fall off at first breath, but instead it wrapped around my esophagus. This causes megaesophagus, and can be life threatening. Surgery was the only option to save me. My owners made the choice to spend quite a bit of money to save me.
At the time, I was too small for surgery tools, so over the next couple months my owners did all they could to get me to gain a few pounds. It was a watery slurry of wet cat food, many times a day.
Finally, the time came, at 7 months, I received the heart surgery needed. It was successful! (April 2019).
But once I returned home, my owners noticed my behavior had changed. I was terrified of everything...noises, people, anything, even loved ones in the home. After medications and herbal remedies, pheromones, they seemed to only take the edge off. They began to call me “Scarey Cat”.
Once Kathy at Happy Pets took the wheel, within a couple weeks I was getting better. I am happier now, and craving attention again. I’m still a little skiddish, but improving every day. I’ve gained some trust back in the people who are around me on a daily basis. And weight is certainly not an issue today! I am a handsome, strong and meaty feline boy!
